15 April 1892 > GE formed

Prompt the date GE

On 15 April 1892, General Electric (GE) was incorporated in Schenectady, New York.  The company was created by the merger of Edison General Electric of Schenectady, New York with Thomson-Houston Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts.

General Electric was one of the 12 companies originally listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average when the index was created in 1896. While GE hasn’t stayed consistently on the index for the last 121 years, it is the only one of the original companies still on the Dow Jones today.
